Video: Is this the worst road in Ireland?

We’re sure there are many contenders out there, but surely this will be hard to beat for the title of worst road in Ireland?

We’re sure there are many contenders out there, but surely this will be hard to beat for the title of worst road in Ireland?

Yesterday we stumbled upon this six minute video of one poor Irish motorist and their daily drive. The road was so bad they felt compelled to upload it to YouTube and show the world.

We got in touch with the uploader to find out a bit more about it and Tom and Annie told us that the road is in Leamlara in Cork, about 5 miles north of Midleton. They drive it every day and the stretch shown in the clip is a mile long.

As you will see, it starts out patchy but okay, like most country roads, but starts to deteriorate rapidly at the 2.00 mark of the video. From there on it resembles something you would expect to see Ewan McGregor trying to negotiate on one of his round the word bike rides.

Huge potholes, massive trenches of water and a very uneven surface cause the car to halt to crawl and then shake violently for most of the rest of the video.

Tom tells us that the council fixed the first half of the road about a year ago but the second half remains untouched. The video was shot about a month ago and Tom claims it has actually gotten worse since due to more heavy rain.

As we saw earlier this week, Cork County Council were able to respond quickly to the massive pothole in Lismire so maybe this will alert them to the situation in Leamlara.

Until they do, marvel at just how bad an Irish road can be. And, if you think your local road is even worse, do send it our way.
