Talk about a tough first day on the job…

Fans of a lot of teams haven’t been happy with every manager chosen to lead them over the years, but we don’t think we’ve ever seen a situation where a coach was subject to physical confrontation at his own unveiling, was the case with new Levski Sofia boss Ivaylo Petev today.

Dozens of disgruntled fans showed up to express their dissatisfaction at Petev’s appointment and so unhappy were two fans in particular at the decision to name him as manager that they confronted him at a press conference unveiling him as boss and forcibly removed the Levski Sofia top he was wearing.

Levski Sofia fans attack and undress new coach… by dm_524af6029050c

Despite a sterling reputation, Levski fans believe that Petev is a fan of arch rivals CSKA Sofia and quite clearly don’t want him on board.

According to dnaindia.com, the supporters shouted “You’re not welcome here. Get up, undress the shirt and go. Levski will not play under you as coach” while pulling the Levski Sofia garment off his head, before ushering him out of the press conference and demanding an explanation from Levski chief executive and club legend Nasko Sirakov.

Sirakov has since resigned but club owner Todor Batkov called the actions of the fans a disgrace and maintained that Petev will remain in charge, even if, on this evidence, he’ll have some job winning over the fans.

Talk about a tough crowd.

Hat-tip to Rostislav Chanev for sending this one into us
