People who play five or six-a-side football on a regular basis often wonder what it would be like to take on high-profile professional footballers in that setting and a few lucky builders currently working on the construction of Hotel Football in Manchester got to find out a little earlier this month.

Hotel Football is the latest business venture from Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville and has also had investment from their Class of ’92 teammates Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt and Phil Neville. The 133-bedroom hotel is located right next to Old Trafford and will house the Manchester United Supporters Group when construction is completed in the near future.

The hotel, which follows on from a range of football-themed cafés – Café Football – set up by Giggs and Neville, will include a range of football-themed features, including a rooftop five-a-side pitch, where builders working on the hotel challenged Giggs, Scholes, Butt and the Nevilles to a leisurely five-a-side when the Manchester United legends came down to visit the site earlier this month.

It all seemed like a bit of a laugh until Giggs carelessly (it obviously wasn’t staged in any way at all) kicked the ball off the roof and the fun had to stop; no wonder he decided to hang up the boots for good.
