Video: Mario Balotelli awarded ridiculous last-minute penalty for AC Milan against Ajax

It’s not quite as bad as the one awarded to Pepe for Real Madrid last week but it’s close.

It’s not quite as bad as the one awarded to Pepe for Real Madrid last week but it’s close.

AC Milan earned a 1-1 draw away to Ajax in the same Champions League group as Celtic and Barcelona this evening but Ajax fans will have been miffed at the circumstances in which the AC Milan equaliser came about. And rightly so.

With over two minutes of stoppage time elapsed, Mario Balotelli attempted to get on the end of a cross in the Ajax penalty area, but realising that Mike van der Hoorn was going to get there first, he grabbed a hold of the Ajax defender and dragged him to the ground in an attempt to make it look like he was being fouled.

Remarkably, the tactic worked and after the ref pointed to the spot, the outcome was inevitable as Balotelli, who never misses, tucked away the spot kick and earned a point for the Italian side.

Terrible, terrible decision.
