Video: Micah Richards dupes horrified Man City staff into believing they got him injured

We would have preferred if he played out the joke a little bit longer but this is still pretty funny.

We would have preferred if he played out the joke a little bit longer but this is still pretty funny.

Television stations and official YouTube channels belonging to Premier League clubs don’t often offer much in the way of entertainment, but in fairness to Manchester City, they’re a cut above the rest.

They regularly feature great goals from the training ground and their 12 days of Christmas offering last year was something of a festive treat. This week, they let viewers have a look behind the scenes at the filming of a commercial starring Micah Richards, who took the opportunity to play a nasty little prank on the club’s PR staff while he was at it.

Having slipped rather awkwardly during one take, Richards was convinced to pretend that he had done serious damage to his hamstring to some female members of staff, who were mortified at the potential consequences when Manuel Pellegrini found out who was responsible (we can only imagine what it would have been like under the combustible Roberto Mancini).

Richards allowed the ladies to worry profusely for a brief few moments but he was barely able to conceal his smile throughout and eventually gave the game away a few seconds later.

Richards hasn’t played a single minute for City in the Premier League this season so it could be said that Pellegrini wouldn’t have been that bothered if he had in fact been injured but fair play to him for being up for a laugh in any case.
