Celtic have been given a most difficult task to reach the knock-out stages of the Champions League for a second year running and Neil Lennon’s reaction told its own story.
Of course with their proud home European record, AC Milan, Barcelona and Ajax will not be overjoyed to have got the Bhoys from pot four – Barca in particular will know only too well the pitfalls that await in Scotland – but Lennon knows they will have it all to do to emerge from Group H, with his immediate reaction telling as much.
However on the plus side, Milan are not quite the superpower they used to be – the fact they were in the second pot tells you that – while they will feel they will have the measure of the Dutch club, especially with one of their star players Christian Eriksen set for a move to Spurs.
We’re looking forward to more special European nights at Parkhead, though that may not have been Lennon’s initial thought.
