Last night Steve Nash became only the fifth player to reach 10,000 assists in the NBA. Here’s the Top 10 assists of his long career.
John Stockton, Jason Kidd, Mark Jackson, and Magic Johnson have now been joined on the 10,000 assist mark by Steve Nash. The Canadian turns 39 next month but shows no signs of slowing down as he tries to help his new team, the LA Lakers, recover from their shocking start to the year.
In honour of the achievement he hit last night against Houston, the NBA released a video of his Top 10 assists. All taken from his time in Phoenix, it is as pretty a collection of dishes as you will see anywhere outside a Michelin star restaurant.
Nash’s ability to release the ball at the very last second, in the right place, almost without looking, should remind you of some moves you normally see on the soccer pitch.
As his Dad is from London, Nash is a committed Spurs fan and some of these moves are as close as basketball will get to a back-heel pass. A career as a midfield maestro a la Pirlo or Iniesta could have been his but for the move to Canada when he was a baby.
Nash is a marvel, and a two time MVP but he will probably go down in the history of the game as one of the greatest passers ever. This video explains why. Enjoy.
