Two cyclists and a race official were badly injured last Sunday at the Crystal Cup cycling event in Arlington, following a pretty nasty crash.

A whole chain of events leads up to this crash at the Crystal Cup Cycling event but it’s pretty clear that proper planning could have prevented the incident.

A cyclist at the back of the peloton hits a race marshal who was standing in the middle of the road in order to guide the racers into a small street. This sends the cyclist into the direction of an oncoming race vehicle, but thankfully it was able to stop before running over him – sadly, the same can’t be said for his bike.

As the peloton comes back around a group of racers and a race referee block the clear path to the right forcing one of them to cycle straight into the crash scene. The cyclist attempts to bunny hop over the injured marshal, but sadly, he doesn’t time his jump correctly and lands right on top of her.

And to think, a few orange cones would have probably prevented the entire incident.
