It’s very hard to chip a goalkeeper when he’s practically standing on his line, but the great Ronaldinho managed that feat for Atletico Mineiro last night.
The game, which eventually finished 5-2 to Atletico Mineiro, was as good as done and dusted by the time Ronaldinho produced his moment of magic, but he probably would have tried this if his team had been trailing by a goal in the dying minutes; he’s just that type of guy.
Receiving the ball on the left hand side of the penalty area, Ronaldinho could have tried to shoot firmly across goal or looked to square the ball for a teammate, but instead he dinked the ball into the top corner at the near post even though the keeper couldn’t have been more than a yard off his line.
It was audacious, it was brilliant and it was a goal that only a few players in the world – Ronaldinho being one of them – would have even thought about trying, never mind pulling it off.
He’s still got it.
