Video: Sit back and drink in 13 minutes of the best volleyed goals of all time

How Ronnie Whelan’s effort against USSR at Euro ’88 didn’t get in there we’ll never know but this is still pretty glorious nonetheless.

How Ronnie Whelan’s effort against USSR at Euro ’88 didn’t get in there we’ll never know but this is still pretty glorious nonetheless.

There are few sweeter sights in football than watching a volley being struck ferociously into the back of the net, so there are few better ways of spending a Friday morning than watching 13 minutes of some of the best volleyed strikes of all time.

Though a little bit (not really) miffed at Whelan’s exclusion as mentioned above, there are any amount of ridiculous strikes in here, from instantly recognisable ones such as Zidane in the Champions League Final against Bayer Leverkusen, Scholes against Aston Villa, Rooney against Newcastle and Robin van Persie against Charlton in his Arsenal days to some you may not have seen before but are jaw-droppingly spectacular in their own right.

We think, nay insist, that you should watch this as soon as possible, so you have our permission to stop what you’re doing, put the kettle on and take a quarter of an hour out of your day to watch repeated illustrations of ridiculous power and technique from some of the best players in the world.

Just try and block out the cheesy Europop soundtrack that seemingly come obligatory with these YouTube compilation videos and you’ll be grand.
