Liverpool haven’t enjoyed the best start to the Premier League this season and it’s understandable considering that the Reds are missing last season’s Player of the Year and leading scorer Luis Suarez, who is due to make his competitive debut for new club Barcelona once his suspension expires later this month.

Suarez was recognised for his feats in front of goal last season when receiving the Golden Shoe award in Barcelona last night, having received the trophy awarded to the scorer of the most league goals in Europe after both he and Cristiano Ronaldo managed league 31 goals apiece last season.

Although Suarez is now a Barcelona man, there was a very strong Liverpool theme at the ceremony. Suarez requested that Kenny Dalglish – who signed him from Ajax in 2011 – present the award, while Reds captain Steven Gerrard also recorded a video message that was played on the night.

Gerrard offered huge congratulations from himself and his Liverpool teammates for the award and signed off by saying that he is missed very much around the club, which, unfortunately for Reds fans, has rang true so far in this campaign.
