Video: Taxi for Chicharito after one of the worst open goal misses you’ll see all season
For a man renowned for his finishing ability, this was woeful, just woeful.
Javier Hernandez is having a bit of a tough time of it at the moment. He’s been banished to the bench by David Moyes at Manchester United and isn’t even seeing much playing time as a substitute, while he missed a penalty for his national side against Panama on Friday night.
He was responsible for an even worse miss against Costa Rica last night, somehow conspiring to miss an open goal after being put through by Oribe Peralta, who eventually finished Hernandez’s excuse of an effort to the net but was ruled offside.
Chicharito’s miss could have proved incredibly costly as Costa Rica went on to win the game 2-1 and put Mexico’s hopes of qualifying for the World Cup in jeopardy, but two stoppage time goals by their gracious ‘Merican neighbours against Panama means they will qualify for the tournament in Brazil next summer if they beat New Zealand in a play-off.
