He’s been repeatedly linked with a move Down Under at some stage, but Dublin underage prodigy Ciaran Kilkenny has his sights set on making the Dublin senior team this summer.
Dual star Kilkenny has attracted rave reviews for his performances for the Dublin minors and under-21s in recent seasons and will once again be the focus of attention when the Dubs take on Roscommon in the All-Ireland under-21 final this weekend.
With the small matter of the Leaving Cert to come in a month’s time, Kilkenny has an awful lot on his plate at the moment, but speaking at Electric Ireland’s announcement of their five year sponsorship of the All-Ireland minor Championships, Kilkenny admitted that making the Dublin senior panel would be a priority once the exams are out of the way.
Also in attendance at the event were minor stars of recent years, Tyrone’s Peter Harte and Niall Burke from Galway, who both spoke of the importance that playing minor at inter-county level had had on their burgeoning senior careers to date.
Cork hurling sensation Conor Lehane was also present and took some time out to talk about the rather ominous challenge of taking on Kilkenny in the National League Final this weekend.
Check out what all Lehane and all the lads had to say in the video above.
Commenting on the link-up with the All-Ireland minor championship, Electric Ireland General Manager Liam Molloy said: "Electric Ireland is delighted to continue our strong relationship with the GAA for the next five years through our sponsorship of the GAA Minor Championships.
“We are delighted to have the opportunity work in partnership with the GAA to help grow and develop this competition for our younger GAA players. As Ireland's leading energy supplier, we are focused on sustainability and the future of energy in our country, much like the minor players our sponsorship will support. They are the future of the game, the raw material that keeps the game alive at senior level"
"We look forward to working closely with the GAA over the coming months and years to really support and nurture the young players, and providing the energy and passion behind a whole new generation and future for the game in our country"
