William Vainqueur was given his marching orders for one of the clumsiest red cards we have seen in a long time when his attempts to be clever went badly wrong.
The Standard Liege midfielder played his part in a 5-0 thumping of Lierse on Sunday, but failed to see out the full 90 minutes after he tried to backheel a ball that was in the air behind him.
We’d imagine in his own mind it would have turned out something that his fellow countryman Zinedine Zidane would have been proud of in his heyday, but completely missed the ball, connecting instead with Rachid Bourabia’s face.
