Video: The absolutely bat-sh*t crazy end to the Watford v Leicester play-off semi-final

You can always rely on the play-offs to produce incredible drama and it was quite hard to believe what was happening at Vicarage Road earlier today.

Anyone who saw Doncaster snatch victory from the jaws of defeat against Brentford a couple of weeks back would have been certain that no other game could live up to it in terms of drama, but Watford and Leicester somehow managed to top it this afternoon.

With Leicester carrying a 1-0 lead into the second leg of today’s Championship semi-final, Watford had it all to do with the game tied 1-1 at the break and when Matej Vydra scored after 65 minutes to make it 2-2 on aggregate, it looked as if the game was headed for extra-time.

That was until Anthony Knockaert won a hugely debatable penalty in injury-time and then picked himself up for a spot-kick that would have sent the Foxes into the Play-Off Final.

Instead, justice was done as Manuel Almunia saved the penalty and to make matters worse for Nigel Pearson’s side, Troy Deeney then went down the other end for a third Watford goal that put Gianfranco Zola’s side within one game of the Premier League.

Unsurprisingly, it was absolute bedlam at Vicarage Road afterwards and one had to feel sorry for Knockaert, who was visibly distraught for a number of minutes afterwards.

The play-offs eh? They never fail to disappoint.
