As sporting brawls go, the one in the Arsenal/Everton game last night was pretty tame.
Looking at the back pages of today’s papers you would think that the Royal Rumble had been re-enacted at The Emirates last night.
Words like ‘furious’ ‘bitter’ and ‘tempers boiling over’ are all over the tabloids but the word that best describes what happened at half-time last night is ‘handbags’.
As the players walked off after a fairly physical first half Everton’s Kevin Miralles very slyly aimed his water bottle at Jack Wilshere and squirted some water at him. It was the most accurate shot taken all night.
Anyway, the Arsenal midfielder wasn’t too chuffed and made a grab for the Belgian. It has been described as a punch in some places but on the video below it seems he just made a move to take a hold of Miralles.
A few other players then got involved, including our own Seamus Coleman, but it seems to us it was mainly lads holding each other back.
We don’t expect any repercussions from the incident and we’ll be back later with a piece on some proper tunnel bust-ups.
