Video: The Irish fans in Gelsenkirchen were having some craic after the game last night

Nothing beats being there after all.

Nothing beats being there after all.

Great as it was watching John O’Shea’s equaliser on the box last night, the atmosphere sounded unbelievable amongst the few thousand Irish fans who made the trip to Gelsenkirchen and got to see it in person.

In fairness to the Irish fans, they were in fine voice throughout last night’s encounter, even when it wasn’t looking good for Martin O’Neill’s men and they were certainly in fine voice when celebrating a vital point with hearty renditions of ‘The Fields of Athenry’ ‘Stand up for the Boys in Green’ and, of course, ‘Shoes off for the Boys in Green’ immediately after the game.

Mark Ruddy was amongst the travelling contingent of Irish fans and he was good enough to send us in a few clips of last night’s celebrations; to say we would have loved to have been there is a dramatic understatement.

Class.
