Much like his compatriot Xabi Alonso, Juan Mata is one of our favourite footballers and he went up even further in our estimation with a lovely gesture towards a Chelsea fan recently.
OK, so it was all part of a publicity stunt for Adidas to promote the new Chelsea jersey, but it was still pretty cool of Mata not only to turn up at a Chelsea fan’s place of work and surprise him with a new signed jersey, but to invite him into the car park for a kick-about while he was at it.
The fan in question was as taken aback as anyone would be if one of the best footballers in the Premier League turned up announced at their workplace, but he was soon enjoying himself out in the car park and even tried to embarrass the Spaniard with a few tricks and a couple of nutmegs.

Whatever tricks he pulled off, however, there was no way he was ever going to better the wonderful piece of skill executed by Mata in Spain training prior to the 2010 World Cup (see below), but Mata made his day, week and probably his year with that impromptu appearance and cemented his status as a top man amongst football fans.
