It must be something in the water around Marseille, as Chris Waddle shows that Joey Barton is 20 years behind in the ‘dodgy French accent’ stakes.
While he may be best known now as an ESPN co-commentator, Chris Waddle was one of the few English players to ply his trade abroad back in the day. The England winger left Tottenham in 1989 and had a three-year stint at Marseille, now home to cunning linguist Joey Barton.
While there, Waddle was a huge success and he even played in the 1991 European Cup final, which the French side lost to Red Star Belgrade.
As you will see above, Waddle scored a few tasty goals in his time, but it is the accent that makes this video worth another watch this week.
