Video: Waiter accidentally gives German leader a beer shower

When serving beer to a world leader there's only one thing you need to remember  - don't spill it on them. Unfortunately for one German waiter serving Angela Merkel, no one told him.

The German Chancellor was speaking at regional part meeting when a bumbling 21-year-old waiter, known as Martin D, accidentally tipped five glasses of beer all down her back.

Martin, who'll certainly have a few drinks raised to him in debt-ridden Greece, was leaning over to hand the German leader a glass of when the other five glasses on his tray tipped over.

As he saw that Merkel was about to get a beer shower he loudly shouted 'sh*t'.

Merkel looked shocked to begin with, but quickly regained her composure. A good move considering there were countless TV cameras and mobile phone focused on her.

Her aides were a little less subtle, throwing their hands up in the air. One female aide even gasped in horror and covered her mouth. It wasn't that bad luv.

Martin told the Bild newspaper:  "A colleague should have brought her the beer. But she was so nervous, she asked me to do it for her. I was shoved from behind, and tried to catch the beers, but it was too late. I shouted 'Sh*t!' really loudly.

"But she turned around, grinned at me - and even though she was wet, went to the speaker’s stage shortly afterwards."

The upside of this while hilarious incident is that we all got a laugh and Merkel has come on leaps and bounds in her reactions to unexpected events like this:
