The name of I.K. Kim has joined Greg Norman and Jean van de Velde in the annals of massive golf balls-ups.
Ladies golf doesn’t get a lot of coverage in Ireland but the finish of the first Major of their season, the Kraft Nabisco Championship, definitely needs to be seen.
South Korean golfer I.K. Kim had finished in the top ten in eight Majors in her short career but the 23-year-old had never won one. Chasing down compatriot Sun Young Yoo, Kim birdied 16 and 17 and she had a one-foot putt to win the tournament on 18. She missed.
The look on her face is heartbreaking. Kim and Yoo went into a play-off but Kim was understandably a little distracted and Yoo birdied the first play-off hole to win.
Fair play to Kim, she gives a long and detailed interview above afterwards but you can tell she is hurting really badly. The shocking putt is about two minutes in.
Let’s hope we’re not running a similar clip for any of the Irish golfers next Monday.
