Video: ‘Whoomp, there it is!’ This baseball umpire has the best three-strike call ever

As annoying as it would be to be hit with a third strike and called out, surely any batter couldn’t help but be cheered up by this enthusiastic umpire.

As annoying as it would be to be hit with a third strike and called out, surely any batter couldn’t help but be cheered up by this enthusiastic umpire.

Younger readers probably won’t have ever heard of Miami-based rap duo Tag Team and to be honest, we wouldn’t be surprised if those who were around during their very brief reign at the top in the early 90s don’t remember who they are either.

They will be primarily remembered for their 1993 hit ‘Whoomp, there it is,’ a song that reached number two on the Billboard Charts and proved particularly popular long after its release, owing mainly to the catchy chorus, which was just a repetition of the title over and over again.

The song ain’t been heard much lately, but one incredibly enthusiastic baseball umpire in the US is obviously keen to keep its legacy alive, as is evident from the video below from the Instagram account of former Oakland Athletics pitcher Mark Mulder, which came via his former A’s teammate Bobby Crosby.

Brilliant, we think you’ll agree. And while we’re getting all nostalgic about one of the biggest club hits of the 90s, why not give it one more listen for old times’ sake.
