Video: Zlatan Ibrahimovic was kung-fu fighting last night
The mercurial Zlatan Ibrahimovic is capable of moments of sublime genius and also sheer stupidity. Last night, we saw an example of the latter.
The Swedish striker and potential nemesis of Ireland next year was dismissed during PSG’s surprise defeat to St. Etienne last night for what could only be described as a high kung-fu kick straight to the chest of St. Etienne netminder Stephane Ruffier.
In fairness to Zlatan, he had every right to go for what was maybe a 60/40 ball in favour of the onrushing ‘keeper but his attempt to claim the ball was wild and he can have no complaints about being given his marching orders.
Ibrahimovic looked baffled as to why he was shown the red card when he eventually got up off the turf, but a quick glance at the replay, particularly the slow-motion view of the incident, would appear to back up the referee in this case.
