With time ticking away in last night’s game between FC Dallas and Los Angeles Galaxy, Geroge John’s winning goal from a corner would normally be greeted with scenes of celebration on the pitch, but instead he suffered a pretty nasty looking head injury.

As he makes a run from the front post to the back, he loses his marker, gets the space for the header and beats former Chelsea man Carlo Cudicini to score a goal.

However, a bottle is thrown right at him from the crowd, and hits him square in the back of the head, opening up a wound that required treatment and leaving him down for several minutes.

The fans behind the goal who throw the object are actually FC Dallas fans, which begs the question why are they trying to bottle their own player? Strange stuff all round.
