Vine: Xabi Alonso’s first goal for Bayern Munich was a real beauty

The move to the Bundesliga seems to be working out pretty well for the bearded one…

The move to the Bundesliga seems to be working out pretty well for the bearded one…

As was the case when Angel di Maria was sold to Manchester United, eyebrows were raised when veteran midfielder Xabi Alonso was allowed to leave Real Madrid during the summer.

As has been the case with Di Maria, it’s a decision that they probably regret now given the starts that both have made to life with their new clubs.

In only a few weeks at Bayern, Alonso has picked up five man of the match awards and broken two Bundesliga records, one for most touches of the ball in a single game and another for most passes completed in a single game.

Having nearly opened his account with a cracking effort from the halfway line at the weekend, Alonso finally broke his duck in a friendly against a selection of amateur footballers last night with a lovely half-volleyed effort from the edge of the box.

Remind us Real Madrid, why did you let this man go again?
