West Ham striker Sean Maguire has joined Sligo Rovers on loan until the end of July.

The 19-year-old Maguire has been part of the Hammers under-21 side and recently sat on the bench for the FA Cup defeat to Nottingham Forest.

The former Irish under-19 international joined the London club from Waterford United early in 2013 having scored 12 goals in 24 games in 2012.

He said: “I’m very happy to be coming to the biggest club in Ireland.

“Everybody has been so welcoming to me since I have arrived and you can see the type of club it is already.

“Ian Baraclough has done an amazing job at Sligo Rovers. I think he is a brilliant manager and I’m here to play games and score goals.

“I know I won’t walk into the team. I have to work hard and impress and make a big impact in the months I’m here. I want to prove what I can do.

“All I want is competitive games and to do well for myself and Sligo Rovers. I know the League of Ireland and I’ve missed it a lot to be honest. When I go back to West Ham I want to return knowing I’ve scored a lot of goals and shown what I can do.”

“Sean is excited to be here and the chance to show what he can do. I feel this football club has similar values to the club he is currently at and the style of play and it will suit Sean,” said Sligo boss Ian Baraclough.

“The deal is until the end of July and the staff at West Ham are keen for Sean to come here and play first-team football as much as he can.”
