A glorious weekend of ‘street GAA’ saw a Westmeath team come to Dublin and win big. Omens for next week end?

We’re sure Bernard Brogan won’t be putting too much stock in it but a young team from Westmeath came to Dublin this weekend and walked off with a huge scalp.

‘Physicality’ a minor team from the Lake County proved to be the best team in Ireland at playing this new hybrid GAA sport. Purpose-built in Dublin Port the fantastic Cúl5 arena played host to over 100 players from nine counties on Saturday and in the end it came down to battle between Westmeath’s Physicality and a Meath/Dublin team called Spar Spawell.

Bernard Brogan was on hand for the final throw-in and the Dub star said: “You see guys playing 5-a-side soccer, rugby and other ball games but you don’t have 5-a-side GAA – so we decided to create it. This game is all about speed. The ball doesn’t go out of play, you can pick it off the ground so it’s all about quick football, quick movement, one touch and attacking using the guys around you.”

Bernard saw Physicality run out 5-3 winners and take the crown. The event was hugely enjoyable for spectators and players alike and we hope we see the Red Bull Cúl5 back real soon.
