According to a bizarre online survey conducted by LikePlace.ie, Carlingford has been voted the best place to live in Ireland for 2011.
A total of 6,066 people (and counting) voted on what they thought are the best and worst places to live in the country and Carlingford in Co. Louth came out on top as the winner, but only because all 6,066 residents of Carlingford got in on the vote – we assume. The lovely lakeside town received an average score of 4.5 out of five. Coming in a close second place are both Schull in Co. Cork and Portmagee in Co. Kerry (both scoring 4.4/5), while Douglas in Co. Cork came in third.
The more interesting half of the survey tells us where has been voted as the worst places to live in Ireland. Coming out on top – or bottom as the case may be – is Dublin City, which scored a measly 2.8 out of five. The next three ‘worst places to live’ according to LikePlace.ie are Shannon (2.9/5), Edenderry (2.9/5) and finally Portlaoise (3.0/5).
Included with the results of the best and worst places to live are comments on the various towns and city’s mentioned. Some read as follows:

The site also looks at the trend in Irish beliefs about the country from 2009 to present. Since 2009, our perception on the environment, law and order and the general opinion of things has increased while schools, local services and the cost of living have all steadily decreased.
