Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane has admitted that he wishes the show was finished, as he now has his hands full with a new version of The Flintstones.

“I talk to the fans and in a way I’m kind of secretly hoping for them to say, ‘We’re done with it,'” MacFarlane has told the Hollywood Reporter.

“And there are plenty of people who say the show is kind of over the hill … but still the vast majority go pale in the face when I mention the possibility.”

In a wide-ranging interview, the 37-year-old said that he was open to a Family Guy movie to close out the series. “Creatively, that would be the way to do it for me,” he said. “Do a really fantastic final episode while the show is still strong.”

Having signed a five-year, $100m-plus deal in 2008 with 20th Century Fox, the demise of Family Guy doesn’t look likely, though fans of the MacFarlane’s other shows, American Dad! and The Cleveland Show can expect plenty more, as his next project is a risky new version of The Flintstones to launch next year.
