They were very much underdogs to avoid getting a record beating in this game, but Tahiti have managed to score a historic goal against Nigeria
The odds are them scoring were pretty long too, but the lads from the Pacific have managed to grab themselves a goal against Nigeria.
They fell behind to an unlucky own goal in the first five minutes, Nnamdi Oduamadi added a second on the ten minute mark, and he grabbed another to give Nigeria a 3-0 lead after a bit of a clanger from Xavier Samin in the Tahitian goal.
Having lost 7-0 to the Chilean U20s side before this tournament (who are a decent side, it should be noted), there were serious worries about the scoreline being embarrassing, but Jonathan Tehau rose above Celtic’s Efe Ambrose to power home a great header, which has given Tahiti a great boost.
The lads on the RTE panel were making the point at the half-time break that the Nigerian team has been very sloppy given that the standard of Tahiti’s play has been very low, but this goal will certainly be a memorable moment for Jonathan Tehau. Their official football federation’s Twitter account is absolutely loving it anyway.
GOAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TAHITI!!!!!!! WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!!!! #NeverGiveUp Tehau HERO!!!!!!

They’ve since conceded a fourth through another own goal, but that was once again a moment of bad luck. Hopefully the Tahitians can grab another, as the crowd absolutely loved their first.
