Video: Incredibly awkward discussion about Wayne Rooney on Sky Sports News earlier today

We can imagine that Wayne Rooney’s presence in the Man United dressing room would be quite awkward right now, but not half as awkward as the discussion about him on Sky Sports News today.

We can imagine that Wayne Rooney’s presence in the Man United dressing room would be quite awkward right now, but not half as awkward as the discussion about him on Sky Sports News today.

By all accounts Rooney remains keen to leave Old Trafford after falling out of favour towards the end of last season and amid persistent interest from Chelsea throughout the summer, but Manchester United and David Moyes continue to insist that he is categorically not for sale.

The Rooney issue was addressed in a preview of Manchester United’s opening Premier League clash against Swansea on Sky Sports News today when presenter David Garrido sought to deal with the ‘elephant in the room’ in Rooney before immediately becoming worried that viewers might have taken him literally and generally just becoming very uncomfortable on screen.

To add to the general awkwardness of the situation, former Sunderland and Blackburn defender Michael Gray, who was providing analysis on the programme alongside Garrido, has previous with Rooney, having reportedly been punched by the England striker years ago after allegedly offending Rooney’s then fiancée Colleen in a restaurant.

Awkward.
