Video: GAA umpire in Kerry quits his post after being over-ruled by referee

The GAA just wouldn’t be the GAA without passions running high. Generally it’s the players, managers or supporters. In Kerry it was an irate umpire.

The GAA just wouldn’t be the GAA without passions running high. Generally it’s the players, managers or supporters. In Kerry it was an irate umpire.

Renard clashed with Valentia in the South Kerry Senior Championship at the weekend and the visitors Valentia would emerge victorious on a scoreline of 1-12 to 0-09.

The game also saw the unusual sight of an umpire quitting his post, so to speak, when he was a little displeased at the referee’s decision to overrule his decision.

Wearing a white shirt, he quickly took it off and fired it on the ground, before leaving the pitch, clearly not in the best form. The action kicks off at 2:40 seconds.

We can’t remember an incident like this in the past, but never let it be said that the match officials don’t share the same drive and passion for the game as the players and mentors.

Hat-tip to Sean Casey on Facebook for sending this our way.
