Is Bertie Bee the first ever mascot to receive a red card?
The word bizarre doesn’t do justice to what happened Burnley mascot Bertie Bee after he received his marching orders during yesterday’s victory over QPR at Turf Moor and he was then spotted in a cell after officials marched him down the tunnel.
Bertie landed himself in hot water after he comically handed the linesman his oversized glasses following a dodgy decision. The officials didn’t see the funny side and he was soon sent for an early bath.
Then a picture emerged of a glum looking Bertie who looks like he might have a serious sting in the tail after such a controversial incident. His has kept his counsel on his Twitter account, but we are expecting a tell-all autobiography in the not too distant future.
Bertie has made headlines in the past and there is no doubting he is one passionate mascot.
Love Burnley mascot Bertie Bee – once rugby tackled a pitch invader + today sent off for giving glasses to linesman. Team game #UTC

The game at Turf Moor also saw Joey Barton hit on the head with a Coke bottle, so the top of the Championship table had plenty of thrills and spills as Burnley won out 2-0 to open a two point lead over the R’s at the summit.
We are yet to hear if Bertie will face any further punishment.
