An American teen caused a three-car crash in a tunnel outside of Manning, Oregon, recently and it was all thanks to a silly superstition…

Some people believe that it’s good luck to hold your breath while driving through a tunnel or on a brand-new stretch of road. Unfortunately for 19-year-old Daniel J. Calhon, of Snohomish, Washington, the only luck that was heading his way when he held his breath while driving through a tunnel in Oregon was bad luck.

Calhon passed out behind the wheel of his car due to a lack of oxygen. His 1990 Toyota Camry then drifted across the centreline of the two-lane tunnel and crashed head on with a Ford Explorer 4×4.

Thankfully, none of the four people involved in the crash were seriously injured, but Calhon is now being cited for reckless driving, three counts of reckless endangerment and fourth-degree assault.

Safe to say that this will probably be the last time Calhon will try holding his breath in a tunnel all in the name of superstition…
