Video: A timelapse of what 6,000 flights going in and out of the UK on a single day looks like

We can’t help but feel a little bit dizzy watching this.

We can’t help but feel a little bit dizzy watching this.

Given the amount of airports there are dotted throughout the UK, even the casual observer would know that the airspace across the pond must be fairly busy on a day to day basis. That said, it’s fascinating to see a physical interpretation of the amount of activity over the UK on a single day.

Created by air traffic management company NATS, the timelapse below accounts for the thousands of flights that go in and out of the UK every day – including a whopping 3,500 in and out of London (Heathrow is the world’s busiest two runway airport) – and also includes interesting nuggets of info, such as the fact that Swanwick Control Centre controls an average of 5,500 flights per day.

And we wonder why there are delays.
