We imagine that Twitter would be slightly more vocal if the incident occurred today…
There are certain sporting moments that fans can not only recall, but they can recall exactly where they were at the exact moment that the moment happened. Sadly, Thierry Henry’s infamous handball against Ireland in Paris is most definitely one of them.
Today marks the fifth anniversary of Henry’s controversial act and while Irish fans have since moved on, we’d also wager that no one will forget and some won’t even forgive.
JOE was probably still adhering to Bebo or Myspace as our social media outlet of choice on that infamous night in Paris but we’ve managed to source some of the best tweets sent about ‘La main de dieu’ in an age where barely anyone was tweeting or had the faintest idea what the word ‘hashtag’ meant.
Keep an eye out for Tim Lovejoy’s spectacular inability to gauge the cultural anguish amongst Irish fans. Well, at least France imploded in spectacular fashion at South Africa.
thierry henry is now dead to me. Cheating f**ker, 10 years as my hero, undone with one cynical movement of the hand. Devastated.

That Ireland-France result was a disgrace. A disgrace. And this from a man who will love Thierry Henry for all of time. A disgrace.\

Outrage. Thierry Henry has cheated Ireland, handling twice as Gallas scored. Disgrace. There’ll be calls for a replay…
