Tinder’s co-founder is creating a similar app but girls have to start the conversation

Does this mean we can’t use any of our classic opening lines?

We’re frequently told that first impressions are kind of a big deal which is why we always wear our finest suits and ensure that our apartment constantly smells of rich mahogany.

Much like real life, an opening line on Tinder is crucially important but a new app entitled Bumble has placed the opening line onus squarely on the ladies.

Then again, lads still need the ability to actually talk and chat with girls thereafter without boring the arse off them, unless these fellas are ridiculously smooth and can charm women using just binary code.

Whitney Wolfe left Tinder earlier this year and sued the company’s CMO, Justin Mateen, who just also happened to be her ex-boyfriend. We wonder if she caught him flirting with other ladies via the app they created together. Irony, eh?

The description on Bumble doesn’t mention Tinder directly but it does have a very thinly-veiled pop at the popular dating app.

“Bumble is the proper place to meet people. It’s everything you’ve always wanted from a social discovery app with none of the things you don’t. Other apps are full of creepy guys and cheesy pickup lines — but Bumble promotes a safe and respectful community.

“You’ll never get unwanted messages and Bumble suggests matches based on more relevant signals than other, more shallow apps”. Meow.

Call us cynical but the design, interface and mechanics of this new app seems very like Tinder with the exception that conversations between matches can only be initiated by women within 24 hours of both users swiping right.

Bumble says that this is meant to reduce the prevalence of “creepy” or “cheesy” pickup lines, even if we always thought our ‘How much does a Polar bear weigh?’ opener was genius.

Ladies, it’s over to you.
