Champions League Love/Hate: The good and the bad from this week’s action

Some things were great... some not so much.

JOE

Matchday five served up some scintillating football and as per usual, there were some things we loved and some things we hated…

Manchester City were saved by the genius of Sergio Aguero, Chelsea were once again magnificent, while Arsenal punished a Dortmund side low on confidence and Liverpool continued to stumble.

Here is what we loved and what we hated from this week’s action.

Love…

Lionel Messi broke yet another record

Another hat-trick for the messiah put him ahead of Raul and Cristiano Ronaldo as the Champions League all-time top goalscorer with 74 goals. He is probably the best footballer any of us will ever see. Let’s cherish his genius.

Sergio Aguero saved Manchester City from another European exit

From one Argentinian genius to another. JOE doesn’t think any other striker in the Premiership is at the level of Aguero… coolness personified.

Nani turned the Maribor defence inside out

Nani may have looked out of sorts when playing for Manchester United last season, but he has certainly found form for Sporting Lisbon this term. The poor Maribor players were getting whiplash trying to follow him.

Hate…

Conservative pitch invaders

JOE likes our pitch invaders to be a little bit more entertaining than this pair at the Basel v Real Madrid game. They looked like a pair of lost tourists.

Goalkeepers losing their head

First Simon Mignolet did this in the Liverpool game…

Then Olympiakos’ Roberto did something even more stupid against Atletico.

Not a good week for the goalkeepers’ union.
