132 start-ups were created every single day in the first month of 2015…
Listen up, entrepreneurs… You have some serious competition on your hands.
That’s because an average of 132 start-up companies and businesses were established every day this January, according to business and credit risk analysts Vision-Net.ie.
A whopping 3,713 start-ups were recorded between the period of January 1st and 28th 2015, an increase of 16 per cent on the same period last year.
The most popular industry for start-ups is Professional Services, accounting for almost 26 per cent of new companies this January (363). The Construction industry saw a 33 per cent increase in start-ups (118 compared to 89).
A total of 45 per cent of company start-ups in January were located in Dublin. A further 10 per cent of start-ups were based in Cork, while Galway, Kildare and Meath accounted for a further 12 per cent of start-ups between them.
The number of start-ups setting up in Galway this January doubled compared to last year (60 compared to 30).
Speaking about the findings, Christine Cullen, Managing Director of Vision-Net.ie said: “2014 saw the highest levels of start-ups since 2007 and it looks like 2015 will beat all projections if this level of activity continues.
“Overall last year company start-ups were up 14% year on year but with a strong start in January it is reasonable to assume that this will be one of the strongest years in recent decades for start-ups.”
