Survey reveals a large amount of Irish people can’t locate Cavan, Tipperary or Mayo on a map

These people have clearly never played Discovering Ireland.

These people have clearly never played Discovering Ireland.

Irish people are famous for giving poor directions but it seems that we’re even worse when it comes to knowing our own landscape.

It appears that geography isn’t the nations strongest subject after a recent survey by Jurys Hotel Group highlighted a shocking amongst Irish people to locate certain counties on a map.

We’re sorry to say that it doesn’t make good reading for the lovely people of Cavan.

The study revealed that over a third (35%) of Irish people were unable to locate Cavan on the map of Ireland.

The Breffni aren’t the only county that’s being shunned because 18% of those surveyed couldn’t recognise Tipperary while a further one in five (20%) were unable to identify Mayo.

Who doesn’t know where Cavan is? It’s home to some great penis-shaped lakes, rampant potato crime and rich gold deposits.

Irish geography teachers have even more reasons to be pulling their hair out today because the results also showed that 1 in 10 people have no idea where the Giant’s Causeway is and 25% could not name the county that is home to Ben Bulben.

If you know anyone that’s ‘geographically challenged’ then we strongly urge you to shame them with this article, or a map.

Both are decent choices.
