PIC: The most checked out book in the UN library last year is slightly disturbing

Alan Loughnane

This probably isn’t something they should be Tweeting out…

The Dag Hammarskjöld Library in the UN recently sent out a Tweet with the book that is checked out of the library most often.

Among the documents and books held in the library is this doctoral thesis from the University of Lucerne by Ramona Pedretti called “Immunity of Heads of State and State Officials for International Crimes”.

As the people over at VOX kindly pointed out, this book basically points out ways which heads of state can be immune from war crimes prosecution.

Which doesn’t seem like something they should be broadcasting…

The UN have responded to the original Tweet, now claiming that it was actually their most popular ‘new’ book rather than the most popular book outright in the library.

Seems rather shifty to us.
