VIDEO: A PEGIDA supporter being chased on O’Connell Street by counter protesters

Joe Harrington

Tense scenes in the city centre.

Anti-Islam group PEGIDA held a protest rally in Dublin city centre this afternoon and it was disrupted by a counter-protest group made up of up to 300 people.

According to our reporter on the ground, PEGIDA supporters were forced to run for cover in a building on Cathedral Street after coming into contact with the counter protesters.

The gardaí then stepped in to separate the two groups until tension subsided and the rallies dispersed.

One PEGIDA supporter tried to get away from the scene by running up O’Connell Street but he was spotted by the counter protesters who chased him.
