Harry Arter leaves the Ireland squad; unlikely to take part in Euro 2016

Harry Arter has been forced to leave the Ireland camp ahead of the European Championships, and is unlikely to travel to France.

The Bournemouth midfielder has a thigh injury and looks unlikely to figure in Martin O’Neill’s 23-man squad for Euro 2016.

It marks a bitterly disappointing end to the season for Arter, who was named man of the match for his performance against the Netherlands last Friday.

Arter’s only remaining hope is that he is named by O’Neill in the hope that he recovers by the time Ireland face Sweden on 13 June.
