The actor said he misses playing Rustin Cohle.

Mathew McConaughey has said he would like to return to HBO’s True Detective.

McConaughey played detective Rust Cohle, but left the show in 2014 after the first series.

Speaking on the Rich Eisen Show, he said that he misses the character and misses watching the show.

“I was a happy man when we made that for six months,” he said.

The actor also said he would return to the show and has even spoken to the show’s creator, Nic Pizzolatto, about coming back.

“Yeah, I would.

“It would have to be in the right context and the right way. That thing, when I read it, I knew in 20 minutes that if could play this guy Rustin Cohle, I’m in,” he said.

He also explained that there was previously a ‘taboo’ about returning to the small screen after working in film but he said that he didn’t mind doing it, if it’s for a ‘great quality’ show.

The show’s second series received unanimously bad reviews despite the hugely successful first series, perhaps McConaughey’s return is what the show needs to turn the reviews around.
