TWEETS: The passionate reaction to a heartbreaking second half for Ireland

Colm Boohig

The definition of a game of two halves, as France beat Ireland 2-1.

It was all going so well for the Boys in Green after a terrific first half display put us 1-0 up and in the driving seat at half-time.

However, France came out a different team in the second period, as did Ireland.

The game quickly turned sour, when Antoine Griezmann’s superb header levelled the match in the 57th minute, before the Atlético Madrid forward added a second just four minutes later.

It was a tough pill to swallow.

Five minutes later, the situation went from bad to worse when Shane Duffy was given a straight red card after taking down Griezmann, who was clean through on goal.

Ireland continued to battle, but gradually ran out of steam.

Our Euro dream slipped away, but the spirit remained throughout.
