“Fly me to the moon…”
Inventor, engineer and CEO of Space-X Elon Musk has stated that the first two tourists have paid the deposit to go for the ultimate ride, going on a long loop out of our atmosphere, around the Moon and back again.
Talking to The New York Times, Musk stated that the two people would spend about a week inside one of SpaceX’s Dragon 2 capsules, launched on SpaceX’s Falcon Heavy rocket. The spacecraft would be automated, but the travelers would undergo training for emergencies He did not say how much the travelers would pay for the ride, but the Falcon Heavy itself has a list price of $90 million.
Musk claimed that the two passengers – both of whom want to remain anonymous for now – are ‘not Hollywood types’, which rules out the rumour that Leonardo DiCaprio would be one of the first tourists on the the Space X rocket.
This would be the first time anyone – be they fully trained astronauts or not – will have gone beyond a low-Earth orbit in over 45 years, and despite this great achievement, this is all we can think of…
