Avalanche hits a busy ski slope in the French Alps

A large number of skiers were reportedly trapped under the snow, but no casualties have been reported.

An avalanche has hit the popular French skiing resort of Tignes in the Alps, according to reports, with many people “engulfed” on the slopes according to local police sources.

Latest reports suggest that there were no casualties as a result of the avalanche.

The avalanche hit at around 9am, Irish time, when the ‘avalanche risk’ was at four out of five.

At five – the most dangerous category – all slopes are closed.
