Irish folk are pure sound, here’s the best reactions to the Leaving Cert results this morning

Alan Loughnane

We only want to know your results to compare them to our own.

The results have come back. You’ll know by now if your mother’s candle worked a charm, or whether the exam was beyond even the power of a prayer candle.

If you got on well, fair play to you, it makes your next step in life that little bit more straightforward. If you’re eyeing up a college degree, the odds are you’re getting your first choice bar some disastrous turn of events.

But university isn’t for everyone, and people have other career options in mind.

If you didn’t fare quite as well as you may have hoped, then all is not lost. You may not get your first choice in university etc, but nowadays, there’s countless ways to pursue the career you want, and one test does not close the door to anything if you’re really passionate about pursuing it.

This will mean very little to some Leaving Certs at this moment, who are currently disappointed that they’ve likely missed out, at least initially, on their chosen course or college. If you’ve your heart set on going somewhere, a group of older people telling you it will all be fine isn’t going to cheer you up.

It’s a similar feeling to breaking up with someone and your friends telling you time heals all wounds and you’ll get over it, you know they’re right, but it certainly doesn’t feel like it at the time and it doesn’t help you deal with it one iota.

But, we’re going to reiterate it again despite everything we’ve said, there’s some truth to what all those people are saying.

Getting all well in your Leaving Cert doesn’t mean you’re going to be any more successful in life than the next person, and vice versa. “Success is relative. It is what we make of the mess we have made of things.” – T.S. Elliot.
