The Commission for Aviation Regulation has said that many Ryanair customers will be entitled to compensation after the airline recently announced the cancellation of hundreds of flights.
RTÉ has reported that customers whose flights were cancelled with less than two weeks’ notice should be compensated by the airline, who will be cancelling 50-60 flights per day over the next several weeks.
Ryanair has not issued the full list of its cancellations, and so far has been announcing cancellations day by day — leaving some fliers in the dark about the status of their journey until just hours before cancellation.
While airlines can avoid paying out compensation in exceptional circumstances, RTÉ has reported that the Commission has confirmed that Ryanair’s issues do not fall under this category. Ryanair has been forced to cancel flights as a result of a problem with leave for their employers.
According to the Independent, 30,000 travellers were affected this week alone.
