TIME Magazine has revealed its Person of the Year

Carl Kinsella

It’s certainly not Donald Trump…

TIME Magazine has revealed its Person of the Year for 2017 in a short video posted to its Twitter page: The Silence Breakers.

The title refers to all the people who have spoken out against sexual misconduct by men across various industries in 2017.

The magazine writes, “These silence breakers have started a revolution of refusal, gathering strength by the day, and in the past two months alone, their collective anger has spurred immediate and shocking results: nearly every day, CEOs have been fired, moguls toppled, icons disgraced. In some cases, criminal charges have been brought.”

Many of the high-profile Silence Breakers were photographed and interviewed for the cover’s accompanying feature. This includes major Hollywood figures such as Rose McGowan, Ashley Judd, Terry Crews, Alyssa Milano and Selma Blair, as well as pop-star Taylor Swift.

Beyond Hollywood, the feature also includes Summer Zervos, one of the women who accused President Donald Trump of sexual harassment. She is currently in the process suing him for defamation after he called her a liar. A judge will soon decide if Trump is immune to such suits while in office.

The feature includes the testimony of women who have fought against harassment in a wide range of fields. The people celebrated for their bravery are dishwashers, strawberry pickers, directors, journalists, actors, and more.

It is not uncommon for TIME’S Person of the Year to not simply be one individual. As recently as 2014, the distinction was awarded to the Ebola Fighters.
